UNLEASH THE DEMONS - AUTHENTIC CHICANO PRISON ART

UNLEASH THE DEMONS

A Gift to Bajito Onda by Chicano Prisoner Torres

By Del HENDRIXSON - GLOBAL FOUNDER OF BAJITO ONDA PRISON APPAREL

May 23, 2026

When My prison arte collection started, it began back in 1995 to be exact. This art was produced by Torres who cannot be identified fully due to art for the viewing of others isn’t allowed, or they lose their art privileges. There are around a hundred pieces in the BO private collection, but as far as i’m concerned no one can top Torres who i call the Picasso of Chicano prison artists. He’s a lifer who to say he has a violent temper is an understatement. I’ve gone to see him many times, each time he was more and more violent and vicious and despicable towards me, which made me very upset, frustrated and scared at the same time. And I was very glad he was behind the glass barrier and having to scream his obscenities at me through an old fashioned telephone. I know he’s mentally ill but still even the guards bringing him into the little booth for our 4 hour visit marched him down the narrow shoot behind the 8 doors to the little booths for their visits. Each time the guards had big shields, a spit mask over his head and shackled feet and hands so it was quite an ordeal to bring him out for a ‘visit’ of any kind. He was an animal who would have killed me if that glass wasn’t between us. Our ‘visits’ were so upsetting due to the fact that he would rant and rave and point his finger at me like a gun to shoot me between the eyes, with his empty soul less stare for a full 3 hours and 45 minutes, to when we were down to practically no time left he would finally blurt out something about the art i went there to see him about. A new idea i had for him to draw, or and idea i would give him to create one of his two month long masterpieces. he always draws himself as the center of the creation, he’s such a control freak! But weeks later when an envelope from him would be delivered it was always an incredible ‘masterpiece’ worthy of hanging in a museum. There are nine pieces in the Bajito Onda collection, and one day i received a letter from him when i had moved out to Arizona. His words in the letter were so demeaning, vicious and maniacal I wrote him back and told him we were done. I couldn’t tolerate his vicious attacks any more. This piece features my own prison number spewing forth from the image of Torres breaking the bars and chains of prison with the B and the O of Bajito Onda. This was a dream of mine he interpreted into a ‘viaje’ or a voyage through our minds and lives. It represents the past and the future of freedom and sanity down below while holding sacred the Smile Now Cry Later Icons. The months in the calendar are completed by the year at the bottom with a ? because he never knew what year if ever he would be released for his heinous viscous attacks on innocent lives.
